HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE VILLAGE:
Every place has its own identity and historical past. This identity and historical past can be assessed make known by Archeological evidence place name and folklore. Unfortunately, we do not have any Archeological pieces of evidence which can prove the background and fact behind the history of the village Reshinagar.The oral sources reveal that the village adopts its name from the Reshi's who came to the village during the 15th century in order to escape from the wrath of 1st mongal's and then of the Timur. The Rishi's were very pious and kind people who devoted their life for the betterment of the mankind. The information collected from some elderly and senior citizens reveals that the Reshi's got settle down in the village and this is why the village is called "Reshinagar".
NOMENCLATURE OF VILLAGE RESHINAGAR:
The present project is related to village Reshinagar of Shopian district. The village lies at a distance of 9 Kms from district Shopian. It is connected to the district Headquarters through memender, Narwaw road Reshinagar has pictorious ambience surrounded by agricultural land and lush green forests.
On the southern side lies the famous river called "Vishow", which originates from the Himalayan mountain near a spring known as "Kounsernag". The river passes through the famous Aharbal falls and reaches the village Reshinagar which lies at the distance of 3 kms from Aharbal. The river not only provides water to the inhabitants of the village but also provides water to the village and its adjacent areas for the irrigation purposes. To the North lies the village Ramnagri and Village Adjan on the East and on western side lies the village Sedow. The total Population of the village according to the census 2011 is 3036 out of which 1554 are males and 1482 are females.
MORPHOLOGY OF THE VILLAGE:
Reshinagar is divided into four main mohalla's namely Darul Salam, Darul Barkat, Darul Anwar, Darul Rehmat, and a separate sheikh mohalla which lies at the northern corner of the village. All the mohallas are inhabited by mixed castes like Ganie, Bhat, Naik, Padder, Mir, Sheikh, Ahangar, Lone, Banday, Magray, Nengroo. In addition to the above Mohalla's a small population of Mochi's also lives in the village which is known as Mochi Mohalla.
HOUSEHOLD ASSETS:
The possession of assets plays a positive role and contributes in raising the income. These include radio, TV, telephone, vehicles, refrigerators and washing machines etc. Asset concentration among the households is an important indicator to measure the standard of living. The information on these assets was sought to be collected with a view to get a glimpse of the quality of life in a particular area.
Upto 70's majority of the households in Reshinagar could not afford to have articles like Radio, TV etc, it is said that the first Color TV was bought by Mohd Ramzan Naikoo and people used to go there to watch. However, nowadays these articles are considered as essential items of daily life. There is now hardly any house without these things. Most of the households have replaced kerosene lamps (Lantern) with gas lamps and more recently developed inverters.
FOODS AND DRINKS:
The chief staple food of kashmir is rice, but in pre-modern times the rice was available only for few months because of many reasons like low production and oppressive taxation. So, the people were having rice only for 4-6 months. After that he lived on sub standard food. Rice gruel with vegetables (anima tesuen) used to be a common substitute. Gurus (churned stored curd) with maize preparation called 'wath' wasalso taken. Bread made of variety of cereals like maize, barley and ganhar was also eaten by the people. However at the time of the scarcity of food, fruits and vegetables both domestic as well as wild like mulberry (tull) apricot etc constitute an important substitute for food. People also used wild vegetables like hand, nunar, header sutsal, daid etc. People also used to catch fishes from the nearby river and this activity of fishing still prevails in the village.
DRESS:
The common dress of Kashmiri men and women has been Pheran. Pheran was made of both wool and cotton. Poor people made Pheran from domestically manufactured chadar. The chadar was prepared by weaver (Vavur) after it was sent to a specialist called Mandanvol who made a beautiful Pattu out of it. The pattu was used during winter season while as pheran made of cotton was used during summer. Under the pheran was worn Kurtien made of wool or cotton. While the common males used a kind of shorts called kaeth. Trousers (Yazar) was used by the rich. The females of rich families also used embrioded pherans. With the economic developments and also with the introduction of machine made goods people began to wear clothes like shirts and trousers and firaq and shalwar. The most favourite women's dress was Pheran, Kamiz, Yazar and Daj, kasab was used by the elderly women. Burqa was absent in pre-modern times. Burqa was introduced after 1960's.
SUMMARY:
The vital infrastructure have seen a marvelous remake today Reshinagar has a mini health dispensary, sound educational network, good drinking water facilities etc. Road and transport facility have seen the most improvement. New roads have been constructed in order to connect the village with another areas of the district. Concretization of Interior link roads, footpaths and drainage network is in process.
The socioeconomics have changed with time and have improved the life of village dwellers. Population have increased manifolds. Growth and development rate is picking up, today village Reshinagar is in remake of its infrastructure, sprawl of buildup have widened in all directions, and new houses are being constructed with modern engineering and facilities. In more appropriate words the village Reshinagar has undergone full fledged transformation from a least developed village to modern hamlet.
