Description
Ranjit Pur is a village located in the Khadiya region of Jammu. The village carries a unique historical significance behind its name. It is said that many years ago, Maharaja Ranjit Singh once visited the area and spent a night resting near the pond. During his stay, he interacted with the local residents, who shared their daily struggles — especially their difficulty in feeding their cattle due to lack of personal grazing land. Deeply moved by their concerns, Maharaja Ranjit Singh decided to gift them a portion of land. Since that day, the village came to be known as Ranjit Pur in his honor.
The community of Ranjit Pur is known for its strong sense of unity and harmony. People here live together peacefully, without judging each other based on caste or religion. There is a strong spirit of brotherhood that binds everyone.
In terms of infrastructure, the village is relatively developed. It has schools, a dispensary, a local factory, a powerhouse, and even a cricket ground where inter-village tournaments are regularly held. One of the cultural highlights of Ranjit Pur is its local cuisine — especially dal chawal, which is loved by everyone in the village. The primary language spoken here is Dogri, reflecting the region’s cultural roots.
During our visit, we had a conversation with the village sarpanch, who proudly told us how the village has gradually progressed over the years. What stood out the most during our time in Ranjit Pur was the warm hospitality of its people and the deep connection they share with their land and traditions.
