Introduction of Rajinder Pura

Rajinder Pura, also known as Bagoona, is a village situated in the Vijaypur tehsil of Samba district in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It lies about 25 km west of Samba town. The village is known for its natural beauty and traditional rural setting, surrounded by lush green fields and a peaceful environment. Rajinder Pura reflects the cultural influence of Dogra traditions and Hindu heritage, which are deeply rooted in the lifestyle of its residents.

History of the Village

Rajinder Pura, earlier known as Bagoona holds historical significance because of its connection to Brigadier Rajinder Singh. Brigadier Rajinder Singh who is widely reagarded as the "Saviour of Kashmir". Brigadier Rajinder Singh was born in this village on the 14th of june 1899 and was comissioned on 14th of june 1921.He rose through the ranks and became a Brigadier on 14th of may 1942.

He was instrumental in protecting Jammu and Kashmir from the invasion of Pakistani forces in 1947. He with 100 gallant soldiers fought four battles between Garhi and Rampur Buniyar to hold over 5000 invaders from 23 to 26 october 1947. He was conferred the first Gallantry Award of independent India also known as the Maha Vir Chakra for his supreme sacrifice and bravery. The village was renamed Rajinder Pura in his honor, and is a symbol of bravery and patriotism in the history.

The village and district administration hold tribute ceremonies, cultural events, and public gatherings every year to honor his martyrdom on October 26 and his birth anniversary on June 14. These celebrations uphold his legacy and instill in the next generation the virtues of bravery and responsibility.
