LOCATION

Panthi is a village in Samba district, Jammu and Kashmir, situated about 4 km from the district headquarters of Samba. Its coordinates are approximately 32.597377°N, 75.150707°E, with a geographical area of 275.6 hectares (2.756 square kilometers). The village is accessible via public and private bus services, and the nearest railway station is less than 5 km away​

 

DEMOGRAPHICS

The village has a population of approximately 1,528 people residing in 241 households. Males constitute around 72% of the population (1,099), and females around 28% (429), reflecting a skewed sex ratio. Scheduled Castes represent 24.7% of the population, while Scheduled Tribes account for 5.2%​

Dogri is the native language, and the literacy rate is reported at about 80%.

 

CULTURAL HERITAGE AND ATTRACTIONS

Panthi is home to several culturally significant landmarks, including:

  • Old Shiv Mandir: An ancient temple believed to be around 100 years old.
  • Bouli: A traditional stepwell showcasing ancient Northern Indian architectural styles.

The village grows staple crops such as rice, wheat, and corn. It also has its own dam, constructed on a tributary of the Basantar River, to support irrigation in the region.

Panthi falls under the Amli Panchayat in the Samba block. The current sarpanch is Sh. Deep Mala. The governance focuses on rural development and preserving the village's natural beauty and traditional lifestyle​
