Jaganoo is a historic village located about 12 kilometers east of Udhampur district headquarters, near the Tawi River. Geographically, it is positioned at 32.34° latitude and 39.30° longitude. Historically, Jaganoo was a significant trade center, attracting merchants from Jammu, Samba, and Amritsar. These traders used the village as a transit point to exchange goods, which were then distributed to Ramnagar, Doda, Kishtwar, and even the Kashmir Valley. Before 1920, Jaganoo was the largest town in Tehsil Udhampur, boasting over a hundred shops. However, the construction of the Jammu & Kashmir highway during the reign of Maharaja Partap Singh diminished its importance, leading many traders to relocate their businesses to Udhampur . About 60 years ago, Jaganoo was a hub of textile production, with several mills operating in the area. Today, most residents commute to Udhampur or Jammu for work, shopkeeping, and business.

According to the 2011 Census, Jaganoo had a population of 958 residents, with 506 males and 452 females. The village had 101 children aged 0 to 6 years, making up about 10.54% of the total population. The sex ratio of the village was 893 females per 1,000 males, which is higher than the state average of Jammu and Kashmir. However, the child sex ratio stood at 772 girls per 1,000 boys, slightly lower than the state average. Jaganoo had an impressive literacy rate of 88.10%, significantly higher than the state average of 67.16%. Male literacy was 91.09%, while female literacy was 84.80%. The most recent census data is from 2011, and the next census is yet to be conducted. However, according to data from the 2018 Panchayat elections in Jaganoo, there were 16,479 registered voters, including 8,886 male voters and 7,593 female voters.
