Spread over about 80 hectares of land, the village is home to around 338 people living in 61 households as per the 2011 Census. Despite its small population, the village has a high literacy rate of 86.44%, with male literacy at 94.56% and female literacy at 78.38%, which is significantly higher than the national average. The sex ratio of 954 females per 1000 males reflects a relatively balanced demographic structure, although the child sex ratio (654) highlights some gender disparity among children. The village falls under the Katal Brahmana Gram Panchayat and is about 14 kilometers away from the district headquarters at Samba. It has a Government Primary School, established in 1977, which serves the early education needs of children up to grade 5, though enrollment is very small, reflecting the limited population. With a pin code of 184141, Chhan Prohtan is culturally connected to the nearby town of Ghagwal, which serves as its tehsil headquarters and provides access to wider markets, rail connectivity, and festivals like the famous Rath Kharda Mela at the Narsingh Dham Temple. Overall, Chhan Prohtan is a modest but literate village, reflective of the rural fabric of Samba district, with strong ties to nearby towns for education, employment, and cultural life.
