Introduction to Village:
Patniyal village is located inJammu tehsil of Jammu district inJammu & Kashmir, India. It is situated 13km away from Jammu. The total geographical area of village is 142.9 hectares.
Meaning behind the Name of the Village:
In ancient times, there was a river. On the banks of the river there were huge stones, these stones were usedby people to form a bridge in order to cross the river which in Dogri language is referred as “Patan”. Onsubsequent modifications over generations the name “Patan” transformed into “Patniyal”.

Cultural Heritage of the village
The culture which is prominent in the village is Dogri Culture.
All the festivals like Lohri, Diwali, Holi, Baisakhi, are celebrated with pomp and show throughout the village.
People wear clothes ranging from kurtas, pyjamas, salwar kameez, suit etc in the village. Besides there are three temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati and other deities.
Community engages with each other on festive occasions. On a normal day, they interact with each other on shops. On the other hand, there are no specific centers or clubs.

The village looks very beautiful with huge trees bordering the sides of the roads.The main attractions are the temples dedicated to shiva and mata parvati. Besides there are lush green fields where various vegetables like tomato, brinjal and crops like maize are grown which add to the natural beauty of the village.

Tourism is promoted in the village by keeping the village clean and green. Development of temples which act as the main source of attraction help to promote tourism. Lush green fields which promote organic farming are worthseeing. People are very proud of their village and they narrate the history of the village to the new commers so that they become aware of the villages history.

No government medical facility is available in the village. However one medical shop namely “PIHU MEDICOS” where first aid and medicines are available at the time of emergency. While interacting with the local residents, it was found that a govt primary health centre is available at Akalpur which is approx. 4kms away from Patniyal.On its own village does not promote any initiative for the health and wellness among its residents. On the other hand, when the government launches some initiative especially during some calamities like covid 19 vaccination then the government designated centers serve the residents.
Supervisor of the Village
Government provides funds to maintain the village through the corporator of the village- Sh. Ghar Singh Chib. He is solely responsible to look after the well being of the village and carry out the developmental works of the village.Also the people have their source of livelihood as farming so they conserve their farm lands.
