Nestled amidst the lush landscapes of Jammu’s district, Nagrota area, where life is slow yet so peaceful. Kamini Village known for its strategic location near NH 44. With a population of 165 residents and 825 people .Named after a legendary local woman, "Kamini", the village holds a piece of history that villagers cherish to this day. Generations ago, Kamini used to bring dairy products to the king’s palace, earning his admiration. Her generosity and determination moved the king to gift her a parcel of land, which became the village we now know as Kamini.
Natural Beauty
Kamini Village is a patchwork of fertile land. Its latitude 32.7917° N and longitude 74.9013° E coordinates. Life here moves with the rhythm of the seasons, from planting to harvest, creating a timeless harmony with nature. Just beyond the village’s edge lies an army base, a presence that offers both a sense of safety and pride to the community.
Education : Heart of the Community
Education is the foundation of Kamini’s future, with schools that nurture young minds from an early age. Beersheba Church also have a school named Grace Children Academy for kindergatren kids, with presently a strength of 70 students and 11 teachers. Also, there is Kamini Government School established since 1980 introduces village children to the world of learning upto 5th grade with a strength of 50 students and 5 pre primary students. Presence of an Anganwadi in the village is of great importance as the kids in the village are provided with nourished food full of nutrients.
Presence of central government funded prestigious schools like Kendriya Vidalaya and Army Public School inside the Usman Dwar (Army premisis) provide great opportunity to the kids of the village with great education.
Cultural and Spiritual Landmarks: The Heartbeat of Kamini
Kamini Village is surrounded by places of profound cultural and spiritual value. Kandoli Mandir, lies close to village and is a famous Hindu temple that drives pilgrims throughout the year. Festivals like Navratri, Dushhera , Shivratri and Janamasthmi are celebrated with great enthusiasm.
Kandoli Mandir is considered as the starting point of the traditional route to Shri mata Vaishno Devi shrine. Many pilgrims visit Kandoli Mandir before visiting Vaishno Devi in Katra, as it is considered as the first darshan. The temple is considered ancient and reflects spirituality.
Jambu Zoo invites families to spend time in nature, learning about wildlife and soaking in the beauty of their surroundings. These landmarks aren’t just tourist spots , but reminds villagers the richness of their land and heritage. Providing employment to villagers as well.

In the village there is availability of chemists as well as dental surgeons . There is a Govt Hospital in the main village i.e Nagrota only 1 km from the village kamini. In, the village itself there is Asha Worker , who timely awares the female villagers about their health issues.

The presence of the nearby military base White Knight Corps has woven discipline and a sense of duty into the community. Here, respect for one another and pride in tradition . Each year, festivals bring villagers together to celebrate with music, dance, and feasts, keeping age-old traditions alive while embracing new beginnings.
Transportation Facility:
Within the village there are local buses but it was difficult for people to travel to far flung areas but after the presence of e-buses it is quite easy for villagers to travel. Also, projects like Six- lane Highway and Ring Road projects are of great importance as it connects key points in the city, such as highways. The work is still under progress but will be a huge success for villagers.
Government Schemes:
1 Jal Jivan Mission : Launched to ensure every rural household has access to a functional tap water connection, improvement in water quality as well.
2 NREGA (National Rural Employment Gurantee Act) : This scheme guarantees 100 days of wage employment per year to rural households
3 NHAI (National Highways Authority Of India) : The NHAI is responsible for the development, maintenance, and management of National Highways in India.
Village Heroes :
Lt. Colonel GK Raina served in Indian Army for 33 years , living in the village from past 37 years has a great positive impact on the village. He fought in the 1971 war, and villagers admire him for his great work. According to him the youth must be "Loyal to their country and they must focus on the positive factors in their life". He also helps villagers a lot in their daily lives. He is a man of great Knowledge and is a strong pillar for the villagers.
Impact of IIT and IIM on Employment:
The presence of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) nearby has been transformative for Kamini Village’s economy. These institutions have created numerous job opportunities, with local residents finding work in various administrative and support roles.

Establishment of IIT , IIM and Jambu zoo gave a boost to local residents of the village in various aspects like :
