Introduction to Gurha Brahmna

The Village Gurha Brahmna is located in Akhnoor tehsil of jammu district in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is governed by Gurha Brahmna Gram Panchayat. It comes under Akhnoor Community Development Block. The nearest town is Akhnoor, which is about 4 kilometers away from Gurha Brahmna, nestled along the banks of the Chenab River which adds natural beauty in the village. The village is surrounded with lush green fields which refresh the minds of the people visiting in the village. In Gurha Brahmna Village there are some military legends monuments also bulid to remember the memory of the legends. Gurha Brahmna Village has now slowly adapting to the changes brought about by modernization and urbanization. In this village there are some other small villages also like pattari, mawa karorara, Bale Bagh, etc.

History of Gurha Brahmna Village

Gurha Brahmna village was named as Gurha Brahmna because most of the people in the village were Brahmins. Due to the Brahmin Community residing in the village, the village was named as Gurha Brahmna. The history signifies the name behind the village. While precise historical records about Gurha Brahmna Village are limited. It is believed to have been established during the Dogra Dynasty's rule in Jammu and Kashmir. Traces of the history are evident in the structures and ruins around the village, which reflects the amalgamation of Hindu architectural styles.

Current Population of Gurha Brahmna Village and Urbanization

The current Populaiton of Gurha Brahmna Village is approximately 5000 including Male population around 2506 and Female population around 2368.

Also the Literacy Rate of the village is approximately 70 percent. 

The village has a modest population consisting of local farmers, and other rural communities. while the village remains largely agriculture in character, there has been a noticable trend towards urbanization with more families choosing to settle in nearby towns due to better employment opportunities and educational facilities.

Languages Spoken in the Village

The Language spoken in the village is mostly Dogri and other languages that are used in the village is Hindi, English, etc. Some Kashmiri people also resides in the village who use Kashmiri Language. And some use Language according to their culture like Nomadic Community people i.e. Nomads.

There are some main attractions in the village like natural Chenab River, Lush Greenery and the crops grown in the village. There are some old temples in the village also that are also the main attractions of the village which attracts the poeple and the children of the village. Some historical sites are also there in the village like an old water well. The village isblessed with the stunning natural beauty, making it an attractive destination for nature lovers. The lush green fields, vast agricultural landscapes, and the river Chenab provide a tranquil environment for visitors. 

The main attraction of the village is "Peer Baba Temple" as people from outside Akhnoor, from Jammu came here to pray for their fast recovery from injuries if dog bites any person and also, people prey for their success.

There are no such Guided Tours are available in the village at present. Some Guiders may be available near the Akhnoor District located near Chenab River and Some visitors can take guidance if they want to visit the village and want to take information regarding the village.

Best Times of Year to Visit the Village

The best time to visit the village is in the month of Festivals and In the month of june / july to see the crops growing in the village and in the month of autumn and spring when the weather is most pleasant. If any children wants to take knowledge about the crops and interested in how the crops grown can visit the village. One can enjoy visiting the village in the festivals like Dussehra, Navratri Celebrations, Janmashtami Celebrations, Shiv Ratri, etc. in temples near the village.

Dussehra Festival 

Dussehra is the festival in which we celebrate the victory of truth over evil, is one of the major events in the village. During this festival, the community of the village gathers to celebrate prayers, feasts and burns the large paper statue of the king Ravan to show the victory of good over evil.

Navratri Celebrations

Navratri is celebrated every year in the viillage which is another major festival, observed with great zeal by the villagers. The nine-night festival, dedicated to  Goddess Durga , is marked by fasting, prayers, and Vibrant Garba dances, which bring the community together in a spirit of devotion and joy.

Janmashtami Celebrations

The celebrations of the Lord Krishna's Birth on Janmashtami is a significant event in Gurha Brahmna Village. The village celebrates this festival in Temples and enjoys with the community.

There are local accommodations for tourists like hotels not in the village but in Akhnoor that is the nearset district , breakfasts are available in the village in shops, guest houses are also there for the accommodation for the tourists near the village but not specifically in Gurha Brahmna.

The most famous dishes in the village is Rajma (Kidney Beans) Chawal and the famous dishes according to the winter season is Maaki ki Roti with Saag and Curd, some famous sweets like Barfi, Jalebi, etc. There are other famous dishes in the village also like Daal, Chawal with Ambal that are specially made in the temples in Bhandaras. The village's food culture is characterized by spicy, flavorful dishes prepared with locally sourced ingridients.

During festivals like Dussehra and Navratri, festive meals include a variety of vegetarian dishes, sweet like Gulab Jamun, which are shared among friends and family.

There are many local Restaurants in the village that visitors can visit and eat but there are no specific famous restaurants, all the restaurants in the village are great and visitors can try if they visit in the village.

Mostly villagers take pride in their crafts, which includes intricate weaving, handloom products, etc.

The occupation is not fixed that all people depends upon farming. Farming is common in the village but some people do Government Jobs also and along side they do farming as their secondary business. There are shops of veterinary care for animals, pets, etc. According to time the economic activities are also changing and updating day by day.

In the Gurha Brahmna village there are a few primary and secondary schools, some Govt. Schools which provides education up  to the high school level. The village established some Early learning centres also that focus on the early childhood development. Healthcare Facilities in Gurha Brahmna village consists of very basic primary healthcare shops like druggists providing basic medical services to the local population of the village, but not includes professional doctors and there is no hospital in the village itself.  There is one private hospital that is near the Gurha Brahmna Village, which is in Akhnoor.

The village benefits from veterinary services In terms of animal healthcare like cows, dogs and other animals that provides the needs of the local livestock.

The Activities of sports like 'Kushti' is played in the festival of Navratri during Dussehra in the Gurha Brahmna Village and prizes are distributed to the winning Kushti players, which is very famous and outsider players from outside Jammu and Kashmir also takes part in this Competition.

Main Crops grown in the Gurha Brahmna village 

The main crops grown in the  Gurha Brahmna village are : Rice, Wheat, Maize, etc. And some other crops are also grown in the fields of  the village according to the need of the farmers. Some farmers grow the crops according to their needs also. Some have their own Mushroom farms, they grow mushrooms in a small room and then sell it to markets.

Biodiversity including Flora and Fauna

The village's surroundings are very rich in biodiversity with flourishing vegetation (Flora) that includes Mango Trees, Lichi Trees, Guava Tress, etc. Fauna means animals, but in Gurha Brahmna village there is not a wide range of variety of Fauna but the Gurha Brahmna village includes Fauna like wild sheeps, Eagles, etc.
