Dhakhar has a Government Higher Secondary School with approximately 250 students, where around 60% are boys and 40% are girls. Due to a broken bridge that once connected nearby villages, many students cross a river to reach the school, though the government has provided a boat facility to reduce their hardships. The school is neat and clean, equipped with a computer lab, and also provides mid-day meals for its students. Streams like Humanities, Commerce, Medical, and Non-Medical are available, ensuring opportunities for higher studies within the village. While there are no adult education centers, schools sometimes organize awareness programs and literacy drives to encourage continuous learning.

Connectivity and Transport

Dhakhar is connected by road through two main routes: one via Tanda and another via Manda. While both routes make the village accessible, road conditions can be challenging due to hilly terrain. Despite these limitations, residents manage travel through shared vehicles and personal transport. For students and traders, the road network is essential to connect with nearby towns and markets, ensuring mobility and economic exchange.

Healthcare Facilities

The village has a small dispensary that caters to primary healthcare needs. However, for major medical issues, residents have to travel to Akhnoor, where hospitals with better facilities are available. Though Dhakhar does not have wellness or fitness centers, health is promoted through daily farming activities, a natural lifestyle, and the clean environment of the hills. Herbal remedies and traditional knowledge are also commonly used in households to deal with minor health issues.

Economy and Employment

Agriculture forms the backbone of Dhakhar’s economy, with villagers cultivating crops and managing livestock for their livelihood. Some residents are employed in government jobs or run small businesses like grocery shops and tea stalls, including a small shop opposite the Government School where visitors can buy bakery items such as samosas. While no formal startups have emerged yet, there is potential for growth in small-scale entrepreneurship, especially in eco-tourism, local handicrafts, and organic produce.

The natural landscape of Dhakhar is rich with flora and fauna, contributing to its pristine environment. Though there are no designated parks or reserves, the entire village itself feels like a natural sanctuary, preserving its biodiversity.
