It is surrounded by lush green fields, ponds, and scenic trails, giving it a calm and refreshing atmosphere. The location is close to industrial areas like SIDCO, which also provides some employment opportunities to the villagers, while the natural surroundings preserve the rural charm and traditional lifestyle.

History

Badhori is proud to be the birthplace of General Baj Singh, a brave Dogra warrior of the Jammu and Kashmir Regiment who fought in the Siege of Chitral (1895). Known for his courage and leadership, he led his men from the front and was martyred in battle, inspiring generations with his sacrifice. In his memory, the village has a pond and a ground named after him, keeping alive the legacy of this great soldier and reminding everyone of the valor of Dogra warriors

Population

The village has a modest population of around 3,298 people, with 1,709 males and 1,589 females. Families live in close harmony, sharing strong community bonds, and most households follow the tradition of joint families, reflecting rich Indian culture. The population is well-balanced across children, hardworking youth, middle-aged adults, and elderly people who are deeply respected in the community. While agriculture remains the primary occupation, many villagers also work in nearby towns and industrial units. With a literacy rate of 75%, the small yet educated population forms a tightly knit community where everyone supports one another like an extended family.

Education

Badhori village has basic educational facilities including a private pre-primary school, both government and private primary schools, and both government and private middle schools. However, there are no secondary or senior secondary schools in the village, and students usually go to Smailpur (less than 5 km away) for these levels. For higher education, there are no colleges within the village, but options are available in Samba and Jammu, which are more than 10 km away. A major advantage for the students of Badhori is the Central University of Jammu, located just 5 km from the village, offering a wide range of courses in arts, science, engineering, management, and other disciplines.

Community Initiatives

The people of the village take pride in working together through community-led initiatives. Activities such as cleanliness drives, tree plantation, repairing common roads, and maintaining ponds are carried out collectively. The youth play an active role by forming sports clubs and self-help groups, which organize events and provide support to fellow villagers. Such initiatives not only improve living standards but also promote unity and responsibility among the residents.
